Hip Arthroplasty with Hydroxyapatite Coated ABG Stem

Abstract

|
Recently, total hip replacement arthroplasty has deveolped to porous coated or hydroxyapatite coated cementless ste.
The development includes the osteointegration effect of hydroxyapatite and bone ingrowth of porous coated stem which is proved with simple Xray and bone densitometry.
We have experienced 39 cases of ABG hip arthroplasty and followed up more than 12 months from march 1991 to march 1993.
The clinical symptoms, simple X-ray and bone densitometry of these cases were evaluated.
The early experience of hydroxyapatite coated ABG stem reveals good results including high Harris hip score, good cacellous desification and good bone ingrowth confirmed by bone densitometry.
However it tis necessary to have long term follow up although early results were good.
